Those of us who are seasoned veterans in DIY lash extensions may already have a favourite lash style or two that we tend to try and recreate at home, but have you actually checked whether the lash style you love the look of is the most flattering for you? There are quite a few different eye shapes out there, and while there are a lucky few that seem to suit most lash styles, some of us should definitely learn which lash styles to stay away from depending on the look we're trying to achieve.
As a basic rule of thumb, first think of what you are trying to achieve. Are you wanting to elongate your eyes? Widen them? Enhance their natural shape? Are you trying to counteract or balance out a part of your eye shape you would prefer was less prominent? This is a good place to start when choosing the right lash style for your eye shape.
That is, if you've already figured out which eye shape you actually have. Surprisingly, a lot of us actually don't know our eye shape, or are mistaken, and for some of us it took one really good lash tech to figure this out for us and gently guide us in the right direction with our chosen lash styles. I'm sure most of us have seen the TikTok filter where you can lay your eye on top of the image displaying all the different eye shapes - that's a pretty quick and effective way of figuring out your eye shape if you haven't already. Alternatively, it'll work just as well taking a good, clear, front-on picture of your face and comparing it to a chart of different eye shapes, like the one we have used below.

Please remember, this is just a rough guide based on what most people with these eye shapes are trying to achieve with their lash styles. Everyone is different, and all of us want to achieve different things with the looks we can create, so have a play around and don't be afraid to go completely outside the box if you have your heart set on a specific lash look! You can always do more research into your specific eye shape and get a better picture of what different lash styles can achieve with your eye shape.

- Are you looking to lengthen, widen, or just enhance your natural eye shape?
- Are your eyebrows straight or arched? High or low on your brow bone?
- Do you have naturally dark lashes and brows?
- Do you usually wear eyeliner? What style?
- What is your daily make up look? Are you a bold, full face kind of gal, or do you prefer a natural, 'no make-up, make-up' sort of look?
- Have you worked out your face shape, and what kind of make up looks flatter your face shape?
All of these things will help you to determine what kind of lash style will suit your face shape and eye shape best. Once you've figured out your eye shape, determined the kind of look you want to achieve and compared it to some of the other things to consider, you should have a much better picture in your head of what will suit you best.
